Special Events

Pink in the Rink and Crop for the Cure are exciting and fun special events and you should make plans to attend the 2010 events now!

Pink in the Rink

Pink in the Rink raises $47,850 for cancer awareness at Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, St. Luke’s.

The Sioux City Musketeers have raised a gross total of $47,850 during the second annual “Pink in the Rink” event at the Tyson Event Center. Proceeds will go toward breast cancer awareness and education at St. Luke’s Imaging and Breast Screening Center and the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Siouxland Affiliate.

Nearly 3,200 Siouxlanders attended the event in which $3 of every ticket sold went toward the fight against breast cancer. An additional $22,300 was raised during an auction following the game of pink game jerseys, referee sweaters and more. T-shirts, pink ducks and other items were also sold as part of “Pink in the Rink” night.

Crop for the Cure

On August 12th, 2009, the organizers of Siouxland’s Crop for the Cure announced that $13,328 has been donated to the Siouxland Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure to support breast cancer education, early detection and research.

Nearly 100 area scrapbookers and crafters gathered for 12 hours of scrapbooking, crafting, quilting, stamping, shopping and fun. In addition, attendees enjoyed activities throughout the day including: on-site vendors, massages, over 100 silent auction items, a garage sale of donated scrapbooking materials, door prizes for all and much more.  100% net profits are donated to help fight the fight against breast cancer.

As more and more people become involved in this hobby many people have started participating in crops. A crop can best be described as something of a quilting bee in which hobbyists come together to scrapbook, share tools and ideas, as well as to socialize and have fun. Crops can last from a few hours, to a full weekend, or even a full week.

The 4th annual Crop for the Cure is scheduled for March 20, 2010.  For more information or to register click to download a 2010 registration form.
